What Features Remain the Same in the Digital SAT?
The SAT has gone digital, but many elements remain the same. Explore the aspects that have not changed and what you need to know.
The SAT, a standardized test for college admissions in the United States, has undergone a significant transformation with the introduction of a digital SAT. While the major format of the exam has changed, there are still many aspects that remain the same. In this post, we will explore what has remained the same in the SAT despite the transition to the digital format.
Grading Scale
The total scores of the SAT have not changed, with both the Reading and Writing section and the Math section having an individual worth of 800 total points, with a perfect score of 1600. The adaptation to the Reading and Writing simply is making that section worth 800 total points as the two sections are now combined in the digital SAT, compared to before where each individual section was worth 400 in the paper SAT.
Math Section Break Down
In the paper SAT, there was a breakdown of questions on the math section with 75% being multiple choice and 25% being student response (a format of a bubble exam sheet). This has been carried over to the digital exam.

Testing Center, Accommodations, and More
When you are registering for the Digital SAT, all the testing centers are still available, so no worries here! You can still go to your local testing sites, it will just be digital. The digital SAT also offers any accommodations that would have been available for paper-based testing on the computerized adaptive test. To quality for these accommodations, you need a specialized learning plan (such as an IEP or 504) with testing accommodations. There isn’t a complete list, but any reasonable accommodation on the learning plan will be eligible.
All in All
While the SAT has undergone a significant transformation with the introduction of a digital version, there are many aspects that remain unchanged. Despite the changes in format, the SAT remains an important component of the college application process for many students. Remember that standardized tests like the SAT can be challenging, but they do not define your intelligence or potential. Believe in yourself and your abilities, and keep pushing forward.
